If I were an ISIS fundamentalist, I'd have worked out that the best way to get shit loads of terrorist sleepers into the country of my sworn enemy would be to teach them the ways of an illegal immigrant, virtually ensuring that not only would they be allowed unfettered entry, there would also be enough apologists in such a country to wail "How could we have known!? How could we have known!?" when we start killing in the name of Allah.

Have a pop at guardian readers but take into account the resources required to keep tabs on every suspect all the time. It's an almost impossible task to keep track of everyone and this bloke in Lyon had been quiet since 2008.

The French authorities have the same problem that we have here. People on watch lists can be monitored and surveillance can be used and passports removed. But then the Guardian reading tree-huggers complain that we are in a police state and that you can't spy on people who you only suspect to be involved in terrorism. So how do you find the balance? Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

The vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists, and are regular people getting by in life and do not deserve to be scapegoated for the actions of a minority.
But history has always shown that the peaceful majority is completely irrelevant.
